If you can’t see right away that 8 is a factor of both the numerator and the denominator, but you see that both numbers are even, go ahead and divide by 2 a few times until you get it. Dividing by 2 is comfortable. Dividing by 2 makes us feel cozy. Like mashed potatoes.
